Description
ROD 500 AIR mobile cleaning laser is a new generation of air-cooled pulsed fiber laser cleaning systems, developed and manufactured by Narran in the Czech Republic. It is equipped with a special fiber laser resonator that enables cleaning without damaging the underlying surface. ROD Laser is suitable for cleaning a wide range of materials, particularly metals (removal of rust, grease, coatings, etc.), as well as masonry.
Technical specifications:
The system’s scanning head is suitable for both manual and robotic applications and can be integrated into industrial production lines. The flexible optical fiber used to guide the laser beam enables truly mobile operation and efficient cleaning even in hard-to-reach areas. The laser requires only a standard 230 V power supply. The system is designed as a mobile trolley with integrated storage space for the laser head, allowing it to be easily moved exactly where it is needed.
The laser is controlled by an industrial PLC, enabling cleaning programs to be easily saved and recalled. Optimal distribution of the laser beam energy across the surface is managed by Narran’s proprietary software, refined through extensive practical applications. The diode lifetime exceeds 100,000 hours.
The laser power, beam shape, and beam width can also be adjusted during operation.
The laser is equipped with integrated air cooling, eliminating the need for any additional external cooling system.

Design and system configuration
The entire system is integrated into a robust welded mobile frame, equipped with industrial wheels for easy handling and certified lifting points for handling by crane or forklift.
Standard equipment includes a flexible optical fiber (10 m as standard, up to 100 m on request), terminated with an actively cooled processing head weighing 1 kg, suitable for both manual operation and integration into automated production lines.
The laser unit is powered by a standard single-phase power supply (230 V, 50/60 Hz, 16 A), ensuring straightforward use both in workshops and in the field.
Cooling of the entire system, including the processing head, is provided by an integrated closed-loop water circuit with both heating and cooling functions, maintaining a constant operating temperature and maximizing the service life of individual components.

Control system and software
The ROD 500 Air is equipped with an industrial Siemens PLC and an intuitive touchscreen HMI for setting power, frequency, scanning patterns, and focus. The software enables:
- saving work profiles and recalling recipes,
- user access control,
- full support for OPC UA, Profinet, remote access, and data logging,
- automatic focusing and laser beam shaping during operation,
- communication with robotic systems and production lines (KUKA, ABB, UR, Stäubli).
Filtration and fume extraction
To ensure safe and clean operation, each Narran system is equipped with a powerful filtration unit that effectively captures dust particles and microscopic fumes generated during the laser cleaning process.
The extraction hose can be connected directly to the processing head, allowing fumes to be extracted directly at the point of generation. This minimizes the spread of contaminants into the surrounding environment and significantly improves workplace safety.
The filtration unit uses a multi-stage air purification system including pre-filters, HEPA filters, and activated carbon, ensuring maximum efficiency and compliance with industrial air quality standards.
The extraction power is adjustable, allowing it to be easily adapted to the specific cleaning process and the type of material being removed.
